Project Overview
BuildPlan Consulting Engineers was engaged to deliver detailed civil design services for a rural property development in Kiama, New South Wales. The project involved the design of a 221-metre private sealed access road and associated earthworks to facilitate the construction of a large storage shed, including vehicle access driveways, stormwater management infrastructure, and sewer servicing. All works were designed in accordance with relevant Kiama Municipal Council, IECA and relevant standards to ensure technical compliance and environmental sustainability
- Detailed design of a 221 m sealed access road, including horizontal and vertical alignment, pavement design, and integration with the broader drainage network
- Development of a balanced earthworks design for the shed platform and access driveways, optimising site levels for accessibility, stormwater control, and minimal cut/fill impact
- Stormwater drainage design incorporating hydraulic analysis and an onsite infiltration system to manage runoff volumes and maintain pre-development discharge conditions
- Design and documentation of sewer infrastructure, including pipe layout, connection details, and provision of expansion joints for H1 reactive soil conditions
- Preparation of a comprehensive Erosion and Sediment Control Plan (ESCP) in accordance with IECA Best Practice Erosion and Sediment Control guidelines
- Specification of surface stabilisation and erosion protection measures to ensure long-term durability and environmental protection of disturbed areas
Project Outcome
The detailed design package received full approval from Kiama Municipal Council and has since been successfully constructed in accordance with the approved design. The integrated civil and servicing design provided a complete, practical, and durable solution, ensuring safe access, efficient stormwater management, and stable infrastructure performance within a sensitive rural environment.
